Training Camp 2: Saarbrücken

The CASCADE team at Saarland University for the second Training Camp in March 2025

12 & 13 March 2025

Structure and Activities
The two-day event brought together the five teams of MSCA PhD researchers, their supervisors, and a team of guest researchers and was hosted by the University of Saarland, a project partner in the CASCADE network. This gathering served as another opportunity for the research team to meet in person, and build on the initial connections which were established at the first training camp at the University of Sheffield in November 2024.
The camp offered the CASCADE ESRs additional group learning opportunities in the form of a programme of lectures and information sessions by CASCADE project partners and experts in the field of Historical Sociolinguistics, Computational Lexicography and Natural Language Processing, along with peer support from a former Marie Curie ESR, currently in a Post-Doc role at USAAR.

Training Camp 2 Programme Format
This training camp consisted of two different types of activities:

  1. Introductions and Training sessions where selected members and partners will provide
input to topics related to Research Design, followed by discussion.
  2. Group working, whereby ESRs will work on challenges which will be presented in terms
of a poster session on the last day.

The purpose of this training camp is to:

● Introduce ESRs to several aspects of Research Design with participation of partners from
Varieng Helsinki (Tanja Säily) and University of Glasgow (Marc Alexander)
● Introduce ESRs and wider group of supervisors from across the network
● Exchange more information about each others’ research
● Tackle challenges to be presented
● Ask questions (about anything)
● And enjoy!
